Hallelujah! It is about time this was discussed, it always is a hot topic and believe me as a woman of color living in a suburb of Washington state, I am still frowned upon by my sisters over her because I wear my hair in dreads. I have also chosen to not put 'creamy crack' in my daughter's hair as well. If she would like to do that to her hair in her teenage years then that will be her choice, but for now I work with her curly, knotty, tangled crown of glory, so that she can appreciate her natural beauty. I chose to wear my hear natural 5+ years ago because I was just tired of putting other people's straight hair on my head to make 'other people' feel better. Accept me for who I am in ALL my glory.

We were watching one of Chris' old specials from the night he was at the Apollo and he seemed so pleased to have Brooklyn represented I was curious.
Turns out, while he was born in SC, the family moved to Brooklyn when he was very young so he grew up there. Reading further, I learned that his wife, Malaak, is the founder and director of Styleworks, which is a full service salon that gives free services to women leaving welfare and returning to the workforce.
Talk about giving back to the community! We need more public figures to step up as Malaak and Chris have done!!!

We were watching one of Chris' old TV specials not long ago when he was at the Appolo and he seemed so pleased to see Brooklyn represented I was curious.
Turns out he was born in the south but his parents brought the family to Brooklyn while he was very young, so he grew up there. Reading further, I learned that his wife, Malaak, is the founder and director of Styleworks. Styleworks is a full service salon that provides services free of charge to women who are leaving welfare and returning to the workforce.
