It's the temperature at which you store the Shea Butter at that makes it grainy, it's how it's cooled. Stirring it occasionally while cooling helps prevent the graininess. Once you get smooth shea butter, you can store it in a cool place with no problem.

Thanks for this very helpful info on shea butter. I just bought a tub of it and it was grainy so I melted it then cooled it and it was fine. I left it in the fridge for a while, then tried taking it out. THe temp in the room is about 70 right now. It started to get grainy again on top. My question is, what is the optimum temperature for storing shea butter? in the fridge it gets kind of hard, but I could keep it there if it's the only place to keep it smooth. I know I could use it grainy but it's a lot more work to smooth it every time I apply it. Thanks so much for your help on this.
