While scanning the radio, I came across Foxy 95.5FM and heard Michael B. mentioning the black hair industry, which definitely got my attention. I never liked going into the Asian owned beauty supply stores because, first of all, I personally do not like being viewed as a potential shoplifter as soon as I walk through the door. I have money to spend and will leave the store with items that I have purchased. Secondly, I grew up with a black beautician, and I miss the quality hair products that worked with my hair type. Also, since so many black companies whose hair products that I used in the past had begun selling out to euro's, I've noticed that the products no longer work the same on my hair as before. So, I let my hair go natural and braid it myself. I want to let you know that you have my support, because I do believe in supporting my own people and believe in quality products that work, regardless of the cost.

Great Blog Entry,

WHile it's been a long time since I've shopped at a Korean store in a black neighborhood, I have considered it. Each time, I've stopped myself and researched my purchase online. Before I saw the DVD, my apprehension came from the unrecognized knowledge that the store was not a resource to me but preying on my community. While normally I do not begrudge any business owner their due (if you work hard you deserve the rewards), I've resented the limited language skills and inability to provide assistance. If I recall correctly, the last store that I was in had a black cashier. Was it my imagination or did he hover around her during the transaction? Bad feelin in the gut.
I thank goodness for enterprising people who have stopped complaining and began to provide services. Also, it is true that higher quality products are not available at these stores. Black Owned Stores must cross multi-cultural lines and advertise to all the curly heads out there. Naturally Curly is growing like wild, as they provide products to many types of hair types, some which are kinky like mine. So, provide the better products, advertise to all, and let your black clients know that you are there for them. We will support you.

<!--more--><!--more-->Thanks for the information and the compliments. We do what we can to help provide products and information to our brothers and sisters and to help the natural black hair salons out there. Hopefully, there's more to come in all of those areas.  We've got several new things planned for the upcoming months.

Ko'nichiwa!

Hello and much love from Asia. We just completed an interview with Sam on PoweTalk-FM. I received the black hair DVD via an email from a close friend in the states. We got Sam on and I was able to touch basis with him via phone after the interview. I am 3 hours from China and I definately wanted some of the "action". I sent Sam a wealth of resources that should assist BOBSA in funding strategies and also hopefuly educate BOBSA members more about Fair Trade practices and Fair Competition--also how to get involved with the Combined Federal Campaign funding Compeition. Simply documenting that we do need to connect the Black Dots and we all are watching and keeping an hopeful positive eye on BOBSA. Go Sam Go! Treasured locs is truly a breath of fresh air for our beautful Black selves, TL was another email referral.I am so proud of all that you do and what you represent! The moral issues of our spending is an old skool moral standard that we have to re-teach from scratch--especially with our Black Hair spending dollars. I am not ashemed to say, de-segregation killed the Black Community economically. Time to get back to Black. I have already sent your website to relatives and friends and will definately spread the word as we go through our Black hair industry business endeavors with our military families--TL will be right in the mix. We are a retired military family and are now in Japan teaching military kids. There is a nice worldwide military Black Hair market we will definately work to connect you with. We love what you do! Keep up the great work!

P.S. Here is another piece of the Black Hair Industry. Asian woman pick up hair braiding classes in the States-Asian women go to the states, go to cosmetology school to braid hair here in Japan on military bases and do a very nice job, very cheaply--I got a referral for my daughter--"afro boo". She came with a photo portfolio of African twists, knots, twists, cornrows, extenstions and had her own cornrow magic hair cream! The 2 Sistahs that I had before had no portfolio, no pics. I had to have the camera ready for the last one to take a picture of her work. What made it very easy for me as a paying customer is my daughter has natural hair, the sistahs, booed, cried, charged extra--"it is harder to work with." Afro-boo just broke out the water bottle and cornrow creme--humbly went to work. We are now working with a Sistah from Liberia--no portfolio of her work. Next appointment we walk in with a camera. So it it has gone a lot deeper than just selling black hair products. TL is here! I can't wait to get some TL shea on my baby-girl's hair!

Great Entry Thank you. You make many valid points.I stopped going to korean beauty supply stores because I don't see the point in shopping with people who know nothing about my hair or the hair concerns I may have. I don't find this inconvenient at all. I do my shopping on the internet with companies like yours. Again thank you.
